Vegetable gardens, veg plots and allotments can be started anytime and planted throughout the year and what’s more you don’t necessarily need a big area, as it’s possible to plant veg in tubs, containers or raised beds.

One of the easiest methods for sowing vegetable plants in larger areas is what is known as ‘no dig’ which reduces weeding and constant care, this method has become ever more popular over recent years.

Instead of being turned over, ’no dig’ allows old plants and soil to break down and incorporate the organic matter into the soil. In doing so, the soil structure is not disrupted by being dug over. Worms and other organisms are not disturbed, therefore the soil's goodness remains intact.

The initial work might be labour intensive to prepare your garden, which we can provide labour for, reducing your workload and allow time to be involved in the planting and aftercare.

Children should be encouraged to get involved in your vegetable gardens whenever possible, even allocating a small section for them to learn more about plant life and sustainability. This is easier to do at home in your own garden and encourages both short and long term projects for them to participate in and care for.

Knowledge can easily be acquired from books and videos of which there is an abundance of information via the internet or a trip to your local allotment and speak to current allotment holders, who from experience are always keen to share their knowledge at the drop of a hat.
